Sri Lanka and Denmark diplomatic relations was first established in 1953. The countries have signed many agreements on areas such as air services and taxation. Sri Lanka’s main exports to Denmark consist of Rubber tyres, tobacco and clothes. Main exports from Denmark to Sri Lanka are fish,milk and medicaments.

Denmark is perhaps made famous by author Hans Christian Anderson and his work with fairy tales. In recent times Denmark has been recognized as a country which provides substantial aid to countries in need adding to its reputation of humanitarianism.

Import Duties and Fees –

·         The import duty and taxes payable are calculated on the CIF value, i.e. the sum of the value of the imported goods and the cost of shipping and insurance. 
·         Duty rates fluctuate between 0% and 17% and certain goods such as electronic items are exempted from duty.
·         However, certain goods maybe subject to additional duties based on the country of manufacture.
·         The import duty and taxes payable are calculated on the CIF value, i.e. the sum of the value of the imported goods and the cost of shipping and insurance. 
·         the standard VAT rate is 25% and it is calculated on the value of the goods, plus the international shipping costs and insurance, plus any import duty due. 
·         Duty is not charged if the value of the goods excluding shipping and insurance cost, does not exceed DKK1150 
·         VAT is not charged if the value of the goods excluding shipping and insurance cost, does not exceed DKK80
·         Excise duty is payable on for example tobacco and alcohol
·         Additional customs fees maybe charged to cover expenses on inspection of goods.

Exemptions

Certain goods are exempted from customs duties and VAT (Please contact us to verify if your goods can qualify for this)

·         Goods addressed to government or semi-government agencies
·         Diplomatic goods

Prohibited goods

·         Meat and milk and any items thereof from non-EU countries with the exception of limited amounts from Andorra, Croatia, the Faeroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and small amounts of specific products from other countries
• Protected species and products thereof as listed by the CITES (Washington Convention) for example ivory, tortoise shell, coral, reptile skin, wood from Amazonian forests.
